Artist's Comments

This is work in progress art in '3d Studio Max'.

I'm going to create a photorealistic glass with Irish coffee. As you can see, the glass is already done and I think it turned out pretty nice.

Details about this project (for the 3d nerds here):

I didn't use 'Vray' for the glass although it might look like it. It's done in 'MentalRay' with 'final gathering' and 'Arch & Design' materials. I used self-illuminating boxes to create a light set for my glass.

Helpfull comments to inprove my render or light set are welcome!

Great render :)

Maybe you should increase the photons emission because the glass looks almost opaque at the bottom, and increase the plate's shininess. Unless you want it so :)

If you want to increase realism you should add a some slight caustics.

I wish I could come up with a clever signature :hmm:

Yeah the glass is a pain in the ass. I tried caustics but they increased my render time from 1:08 to 8:18. :P Caustics are either really ugly or extremely heavy for my computer (or I'm just a n00b who doesn't know how to handle caustics).
But when I add caustics, the long render time isn't the only problem. Right now, the bottom of my glass looks really dark, but when I add caustics, it looks like a heavy shiny light bulb. That Sucks ass.
If you wish I can upload a render with caustics so you can see what I mean.
